2015: The Immigrant’s Lament – Craig Weir on Ellis Island

Piper Craig Weir performs the world premiere of “The Immigrant’s Lament” at the annual Tartan Day on Ellis Island celebrations produced by the Clan Currie Society.

Clan Currie commissioned the new tune to commemorate their 14th annual celebration on Ellis Island.

From April 10-12, 2015, over 30 thousand visitors came to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Monument to enjoy the best of Scottish heritage and culture.

The centerpiece of the weekend was Clan Currie’s new exhibition on infamous Scottish pirate Captain William Kidd born in Dundee, Scotland.

In addition to Craig Weir, visitors also enjoyed all-day performances by the NY Celtic Dancers, the Rampant Lion Pipe Band, John the Kilted Juggler, the Celtic Cross Highland Dancers from Ottawa, Ontario, Jerry Dixon the Piping Pirate, fiddlers Amy Beshara and Matthew Christian, guitarist Max Carmichael, demonstrations from kilt maker Bonnie Greene and storytellers from Wall Street Walks captivated visitors with tales of Captain Kidd’s ghost haunting his old neighborhoods in 17th century New York (New Amsterdam.)
